Tina Gasperson has written a good article about rosetimes on the Newsforge web site.
If you have a Digg.com account, you can Digg it here. (Thanks, Kyle Cherry.)
Gasperson has an intrinsic understanding of why rosetimes were invented. For those who might be interested in some of the screencasts and other creative projects I’m working on, you can find a link to those on my blog.
For those who might be wondering, rosetimes was inspired by the huge step forward of the Digital Bicycle project at Lowell Telecommunications Corporation, the public access television station in Lowell, Massachusetts. The Digital Bicycle project uses RSS and Bittorrent to greatly simplify the distribution of community media between public access television stations, thereby empowering the community voice.
This 5-minute dramatic rosetime shares 4 different points of view about Warren Buffett’s donation of $30 billion to the Gates Foundation. Working on this project has given me some ideas for some panel discussion rosetimes where I will be the moderator of the rosetime and also will be each of the panelists in the rosetime. Have you heard of a newspaper columnist named George F. Won’t? If you haven’t, you will soon.
Paul Lamb is a technology access activist in the San Francisco area. In this rosetime, hear how he co-founded a nonprofit organization named StreetTech and about the work he is doing as a fellow in the Community Technology Foundation of California.
A dialup version of this rosetime is available for those who don’t have high-speed Internet. The dialup version is about 50 megabytes — still fairly large, but dialup users can access this version by letting their computers download the file for about 4 hours.
Here is the first two minutes of this video on Google Video.
This rosetime was created using Final Cut Express HD.
Google videos look best when viewed at “original size.” You can choose “original size” by clicking on the downward pointing arrow at the bottom right of the video.
A neat new features on Google Video lets you link within a video, specifying exactly what segment of the video your link goes to.
For example, this link takes you straight to where Paul Lamb explain about how he co-founded Street Tech.
And you can find out he became a fellow of the Community Technology Foundation of California right about here.
Here is a 30-minute interview with health access advocate Siobhan Champ-Blackwell.
Here is a Rosetime sample video I created — an interview with myself about Rosetimes. And here is another Rosetime, a book review where I disagree with myself.
